The Mom’s Guide to Easy, Confident Travel

Updated: Apr 23

Stress-Free Travel Starts Here: A Guide for Moms Who Want to Chase the Memories—Not the Stress

Traveling with your family doesn’t have to be overwhelming. You don’t need to start with a 12-hour flight and three layovers to call yourself a “traveler.” This guide will walk you through small, practical steps to build your confidence—and your excitement. Because travel should be about connection, not chaos.

Travel is about connecting - it doesn't have to be perfect! You need to slow down.
Travel is about connecting - it doesn't have to be perfect! You need to slow down.

1. Start Where You Are

Feeling nervous? That’s normal. Let’s take it one step at a time.

  • Worried about language barriers? Try a trip to England, Scotland, or Ireland where English is spoken.

  • Public transit stress you out? A weekend in NYC or Chicago is a great training ground.

  • Worried about flying with kids? A short domestic trip can help you practice your travel day rhythm before heading overseas.

There’s no “wrong” place to start—start with the trip that builds your confidence for the next one.

2. Knowledge = Power (And Confidence)

Understanding your passenger rights, how to advocate for your family if something goes wrong, and what to expect from airlines or border crossings will massively reduce your anxiety.

  • Delayed flight? Denied boarding? Lost luggage? You’ve got rights.Head to @chasingmemories.co and check the highlight bubbles for real-life guidance that’s mom-tested and traveler-approved.

When you know what to do, you stop panicking and start problem-solving.

3. Travel Insurance = Peace of Mind

Let’s be real: you don’t plan to need it.But if your child spikes a fever in a new country, or your bag never makes it out of the airport...you’ll be glad you have the right coverage.

Not all travel insurance is created equal. I walk you through exactly what to look for and who I recommend in my free email series (scroll to the end of this guide to join).

4. Your International Travel Checklist

Before you hop on a plane, check off the big things:

  • Passports (double-check expiration dates!)

  • Visa & entry requirements at travel.state.gov

  • Vaccination & health rules (check embassy websites for up-to-date info)

  • Travel insurance policy

  • Important numbers (embassy, travel provider, insurance hotline)

  • Emergency backup docs (printed or offline copies of passports, bookings, and emergency contacts)

Start early and pace yourself. You’ve got this.

5. Pack Like a Pro (Even With Kids)

Repeat after me: Less is more.

  • Forgot something? You can buy it there.

  • Kids don’t need a suitcase full of toys.Dollar store finds, small travel games, or new-to-them activities go a long way.

  • Leave the “just in case” items behind—you’ll be shocked at how little you actually need.

Packing light makes everything easier—especially when you’re juggling kids, strollers, and suitcases. My favorite products listed here.
